VisSURG-AID
Visual Surgical Artificial Intelligence for Decision Support Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture (HMWK) FCMH ExperimentierräumeSurgical decision-making in complex or emergency interventions is inherently high-risk and frequently influenced by the individual expertise and experience of the operating surgeon. Cognitive biases and subjective judgment errors represent a major source of preventable adverse events. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based systems designed to provide real-time, intraoperative decision support therefore hold considerable potential for improving patient outcomes. Such systems leverage intraoperative imaging data to extract relevant features and generate clinically actionable information for surgical guidance. The primary objective of this project is the development of a consolidated data infrastructure comprising high-quality, annotated imaging datasets. These datasets will be systematically generated and enriched based on well-defined clinical scenarios. Building upon this data foundation, domain-specific AI-driven decision support systems can be designed, implemented, and evaluated

The project VisSURG-AID – Visual Surgical Artificial Intelligence for Decision Support has a duration of one year and is funded by the Research Campus Central Hesse (FCMH) as part of the Experimentierräume funding program. The project receives total funding of €29,407.
